PROJECT DESCRIPTION
I used my design concept for The Golden Hour first and second floor to create a hotel guest room that harmonized with it. To elevate the room's design, I dived deeper into refining and specifying the elements essential for crafting the desired hotel experience. This involved a comprehensive exploration of the materials that would shape the overarching design, including meticulous planning for the ADA restroom included. While selecting and detailing the materials for the space, my focus was not only on expressing the intended emotional ambiance but also on ensuring each material served its purpose effectively. I gave careful consideration to how these selections would cater to both the private scale of the guest room and the broader public scale of the entire hotel environment. Furthermore, my material choices were guided by a commitment to incorporate the biophilic essence of the first two floors.
MATERIAL PALETTE
CONCEPT STATEMENT
The Oasis Hotel Room is what a guest room may look like when staying at The Golden Hour. Rooted in the urban nightlife of the city and incorporating biophilic elements, the design of The Oasis Hotel Room revolves around the thoughtful use of materials, creating a unique and immersive experience for guests.
The materiality of the room is carefully chosen to reflect the natural and urban elements of the surrounding environment. The walls feature coverings that add a depth to the space and resemble the bright sun rays of a sunset, adding a touch of biophilia to the room and creating a connection with nature.This feel is also carried through the plant-like pattern used though the selected tile. A monochromatic color scheme dominated by various shades of green is used throughout the room, echoing the natural hues of the nearby High Line park. The color green is carefully selected to evoke a sense of tranquility, promoting relaxation and rejuvenation for guests. Gold and bronze accents are incorporated into the room, mimicking the city lights and sunset reflections over the Hudson River, adding a touch of urban sophistication to the design. These materials create a modern and chic aesthetic, adding a sense of urbanity to the space. Organic lines implied by certain furnishing pieces are also incorporated into the design, creating a flow that is both inviting and soothing.
The Oasis Hotel Room offers a range of accommodations for both hotel guests and the public. During the day, the room serves as a serene sanctuary, providing a respite from the bustling city. In the evening, it transforms into a cozy retreat with dim lighting and a calming ambiance, creating a tranquil oasis for relaxation and rest. The materiality of The Oasis Hotel Room is carefully curated to create a unique and immersive experience for guests, with a harmonious blend of natural and urban elements. It offers a modern, chic, and soothing atmosphere that invites guests to escape, unwind, and indulge in a serene oasis amidst the vibrant cityscape of New York City.
